Best car battery brands compared
Most brand differences are smaller than the marketing suggests because only three or four manufacturers (Clarios, East Penn, Exide) actually make most US car batteries. The brand names and warranties are where the real differences live. The rankings below are based on warranty terms, retail availability, and consumer-reported reliability.
Worth knowing first
Only three companies make the vast majority of US car batteries. Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls) makes the cells in EverStart, Duralast, and many private-label batteries. East Penn makes Deka, Duracell Automotive, and various private labels. Exide makes Champion and several others. The brand on the label matters less than the warranty terms and retail availability that come with it.
